FAQs
-
Q: What subjects do you tutor?
A: I specialize in literacy (reading, writing, and spelling) and math. I also provide support with study skills, test preparation, and school readiness. Each lesson is designed around your child’s specific learning needs, so whether they are struggling to catch up or eager to move ahead, I create a plan that works for them.
-
Q: What ages/grade levels do you work with?
A: I work with early learners through high school students. For younger children, I focus on building strong foundations in phonics, number sense, and early learning skills. With older students, I emphasize writing, comprehension, critical thinking, and study strategies that support academic growth and confidence.
-
Q: How do I know if my child needs tutoring?
A: Every child can benefit from extra support, but some signs that tutoring may be helpful include frustration with homework, a drop in grades, lack of confidence, or difficulty mastering foundational skills. Tutoring provides a safe, encouraging space where your child can ask questions, practice at their own pace, and develop strategies that boost confidence and independence.
-
Q: How long are tutoring sessions?
A: Sessions are typically 30–60 minutes. For younger children, shorter, highly engaging sessions may work best, while older students often benefit from longer sessions that allow for deeper practice and problem-solving. I work with families to find the right session length for each learner.
-
Q: How often should my child attend tutoring?
A: From experience, consistency is key! For discouraged learners, I recommend at least one to two sessions per week to build momentum and reinforce learning. However, frequency can be adjusted depending on your learner’s goals, needs, and schedule. Some students come for ongoing support, while others work with me intensively for a set period to prepare for exams or strengthen specific skills.
-
Q: Do you offer in-person or online tutoring?
A: Yes! I offer both. In-person sessions provide face-to-face interaction and hands-on learning, while online tutoring offers flexibility, convenience, and access from anywhere. Both formats are highly interactive and tailored to your child’s needs.
-
Q: How do you personalize lessons?
A: Every student begins with an informal assessment so I can understand their strengths, challenges, and learning style. I also talk with families to set clear goals. Lessons are then customized with research-based strategies, engaging activities, and real-world connections that make learning meaningful.
-
Q: What makes your tutoring different?
A: I believe in a student-centered approach. That means I don’t just focus on worksheets or memorization. I am building confidence, independence, and a love of learning. My sessions balance skill-building and student encouragement, which enables students to make academic progress and also to take pride in their accomplishments.
-
Q: What are your rates?
A: My rates vary depending on the subject, grade level, and whether sessions are online or in-person. I also offer sibling discounts and package options for families who prefer to book multiple sessions at once. Please see my current pricing guide.

Q: What if we need to cancel a session?
A: I worked the front desk in a school for 4 years as the main contact for families, and it taught me three things: (1) life happens!, (2) students have busy schedules, and (3) sometimes we all need a break. I simply ask for 2 hour notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. With notice, I’m happy to find a make-up time that works best for your family’s schedule.
